Centuries of occupation in this region have left behind a magnificent archeological and monumental heritage.

Proof of this are the megalithic construction in the Aboboreira hills and the Arouca Geopark, the Roman roads and bridges, the countless examples of Romanesque architecture and the other iconic monuments scattered around the region.

Religion has also left its mark on these places. The chapels, churches, convents and monasteries to be visited here are the material legacy left behind by the different religious orders which passed through.

Art and literature also grace these lands. Eça de Queiroz, Teixeira de Pascoaes and Amadeo de Souza-Cardoso are some of the names which have enriched the Portuguese cultural heritage produced here or which was inspired by the region.
